ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System -Requirements

ISO 9001:2015 specifies requirements for a quality management system where an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide a product that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements and aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

Origin of ISO 9001

ISO 9001 was first published in 1987 by ISO (International Organization for Standardization). The current version of the standard - ISO 9001:2015 - was published on 30th September 2015 and replaces the previous edition, ISO 9001:2008 which will be retired on 27 September 2018.

Since ISO 9001 was first published in 1987, it has been adopted by over one million organizations in more than 160 countries.

The new specification contains an increased emphasis on leadership and the systems approach to management, both of which are critical in any effective quality management system 

Leadership 

A Quality Management System requires strong top-level commitment with active involvement from top management. The responsibility for carrying out the activities required by ISO 9001 rests with all members of staff throughout the organization. All need to be aware of their contribution to the quality management system, and of its importance in achieving the organization's goals.

Systems Approach 

The structure of ISO 9001:2015 uses process-based language to describe the relationships between customers, organizations, suppliers, regulators, and other interested parties. This approach supports an integrated approach to managing processes that are interrelated.
